About Jane Wise

Hi! I am a watercolor artist who sometimes uses ink and acrylics. I am mostly self taught, but I’ve taken classes, demos and workshops with other artists including Carol Gangemi, Karen Frattali, Andy Smith, Larry Lombardo, David Rankin, Alvaro Castagnet, and Sarah Yeoman. I live in Amish country in southeastern Pennsylvania. I like to create works that trip my trigger, mostly ones with textures and details. I take thousands of photos and filter these down into my art works. Other times I merge several photos into one work. I like a variety of subjects and I like to push myself or be challenged. I seem to have several themes lately-the nostalgia theme, rusty vehicles, flowers, and animals. I have also done portraits, landscapes and still life’s. I am a bit competitive and like to see if I can do a certain subject well. I also enter contests occasionally. I enjoy travelling, gardening, hiking and biking. My husband, Jake, and I like to visit quaint villages and historical sites. We have two grown children.

I created all kinds of art projects over the years, but I started seriously painting in 2010 after homeschooling for 15 years. I taught art classes about 8 years to various homeschool groups during that time. However, the impetus to begin was an answer to prayer. I always wanted to do art but was too busy. I one time prayed that if God wanted me to paint, He’d need to put me in my easy chair to have time to do it. I told no one. Later, I developed knee pains which led to meniscus surgeries and eventually bilateral knee replacement. As I sat in the easy chair icing my knees, I remembered that prayer. I had free time and decided to give it a try. So then I took a few classes and worked at my craft until the present. I like to continually improve and keep learning. I am now getting into a few watercolor society shows(received signature status in PWS in 2020) and competing against some of the best watercolor artists in the world.
